Canstruction® Orange County has an update on the status of this year's CanstructionOC Design-Build Competition.
In light of the current spike in COVID-19 cases and the uncertainty of the safety of our build venues, combined with the lack of availability of canned foods, even our most staunch Canstruction partners have understandably decided that it is unsafe for them to participate in a public build of their structures at this time. Our host sites have been informed, and those teams are planning to build in 2021.
Most teams will donate food that they have collected thus far to the OC Food Bank. One team, Fluor, has opted to build their structure at their location. The Fluor structure is themed appropriately to honor COVID first responders. Whereas we will not host an official CanstructionOC event in 2020, we look forward to sharing the Fluor exhibit with you.
Recognizing that the OC Food Bank is experiencing an unprecedented demand for assistance, many Canstruction partners have expressed a desire to invest in further supporting the work of the OC Food Bank during this crisis.
In lieu of a Can-Do Awards event, we are planning a virtual live celebration of CanstructionOC over the years with the opportunity to vote for your favorites. We will also have some great raffle and silent auction items for you to win (again virtually).
In the meantime, we encourage you to support the good work of the OC Food Bank by donating online at https://ocfoodbank.org/canstruction/. Donations over $250 will be recognized on the CanstructionOC web site.
We all long for a return to normalcy that we hope will include your participation in Canstruction 2021. In the interim, the CanstructionOC Committee hopes that you, your colleagues, and your family will stay safe and well.
